The challenge when your kids start school is to “not let anything drop.”
“Anything” being — getting kids to bed on time, getting them up on time, making sure homework is done, getting papers ready for school the next morning, laying out clean clothes and so on.
It’s organization that controls the home environment and helps avoid the frenetic pace most parents face when it’s time for kids to go back to school.
That’s why Amy Bates, a Tulsa mother of 14-year-old and 11-year-old sons, has a slew of simple ideas for keeping organized.
First, you need to define what works in your own home, said Bates, who owns Merry Maids Metro Tulsa cleaning service.
“If it’s simple, easy and incorporates easily into a routine, it tends to stick more,” she said in a recent interview.
“If you make it overly complicated, it’s easier to kind of push to the side. If you can make it flow with the natural routine of the home, it’s easier. And have it convenient, like making sure clothes hampers are in the right place so things don’t get left on the floor. At least with two boys that’s what I find.”...
